Probably the most engaging and interesting way to get readers interested in a blog is to write opinion pieces. The best way to write an opinion or editorial piece is in response to something else that other bloggers or reporters have written. For this post, research an opinion piece or argument pertaining to your blog post…..see what kind of controversies are out there! Read and annotate the article. Then react to it! This reaction piece will become blog post #3. It should include:
- A complete summary of the original article (1 paragraph) that follows the requirements of summary
- A clear expression of your point of view: Do you agree, disagree or both? Make sure your position/claim are clearly stated.
- Engage 2-3 specific issues or ideas suggested in your chosen article. Quote these AND discuss what you think about them. This is your evidence section.
- Then explain your position. What are your reasons for agreeing/disagreeing/both? Be clear, factual, and logical. Explain YOUR solution/opinion. Although it is not required, you may use other research to support you.
- Follow the ten requirements for writing a controversial topic without regrets.

ReplyDeleteAccording to an article resource written by Investopedia it's claiming Netflix has changed the TV Industry. The main idea of the article is that Netflix is making cable companies go out of business. Netflix's success has been deemed an existential threat for the TV industry.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this article because Netflix has become a way for people to watch their favorite documentaries, movies, and their favorite TV shows without the commercials. Most consumers have cut the cord from existing cable, as Netflix is 20% of the cost of most cable packages.
The TV networks worst fear and issue is the cable business crashing. They would no longer receive regular revenue from being part of a cable package. I am a loyal Netflix customer and I only ever watch Netflix along with all of my other friends. One main source of Netflix's success and stock price appreciation has been its original content, creating a loyal user base.
Investopedia is a premiere resource for investing education, personal finance, marketing analysis, and free trading simulators. This is a very trusted source that teaches people about finance and the world and the way things are. So I definitely agree with this source since there is actual evidence.
Can you please indent your paragraphs?!But, I do agree with your statements. Netflix is slowly taking viewers away from cable television. I can relate as i have not watched regular cable Television in a while but have watched Netflix recently.

Deletei agree, cable is going out of business company Hulu and netflix is taking over them. i someone i work with he don't own cable anymore he use netflix and hulu and he said is cheaper than cable.
DeleteI watch Netflix regularly, but I feel like cable will still always be around. Cable gives you stuff like the news that is everyday that you can not get on Netflix and the older generation probably cant figure out Netflix. Although Netflix makes streaming easier to the millions of people who use it. Maybe give more details on Netflix and what it is all about so that people can have a better understanding on why cable companies have this fear.
DeleteI mentioned the reason cable companies are afraid, and that's because Netflix is 20% of the cost of most cable packages. And cable companies had already lost a lot of business because of them.
DeleteYou have to agree or disagree with the articles opinion in all paragraphs that list her main ideas! This is essential to have for other readers who came here to read an argumentative piece. You simply don't have enough paragraphs either as the grading scale states. I get a small idea about how you feel but that is in only one paragraph. I don't think your readers will appreciate this blog post because it doesn't assist them in any way. I feel for in the future you should be more careful about reading the requirements to achieve a successful post.
ReplyDeleteYour piece is well written but just doesn't meet all of the requirements. Your intro gives me a good insight into what you wanted the rest of your post to be about but I don't think you showed all of the things mentioned. I wish you would have because this is a very interesting topic to learn about with the fast paced changing society.
DeleteAccording to a Special Ed article "Special Education: the forgotten issue in no child left behind reform" about how they are giving more people modified tests, so they test higher, this is what I found out.
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with this. I think students should have to take a test, that tests their knowledge, and if they score low, they do get extra help or extended time on tests. I do not feel like they should put just randomly picked kids into these tests, because some students actually need the extra help and time.
"The education system did not value students with disabilities because their success or failure was not counted." This is disgusting. This is saying kids with disabilities success or failure doesn't count along with everybody elses. That is not right. They are the same as us.
"Adaptive assessments create a custom test for each student based on their answers to test questions." This is how it should be, and this is the right way, because they are the same as us.
I agree with one and disagree with the other. I think that kids with disabilities are all the same as us, they might just need a little extra time or help with their test which is 100% okay. I don't think that they should be pulled out or separated from the rest of the class, that is segregation and that should not be allowed in schools at all.
I think that you picked a great article to talk about. I would maybe just add a little bit more on the article summary and explain it more. You picked some good quotes and i really like how you explained them well.
DeleteOverall, I think you picked a good article to talk about and you did a very good job stating your own opinions. You used a creditable source and used evidence to back it up. I think you could have added more to the summary to explain more about the article, but other than that you used good quotes and was factual and logical with your reasoning.
DeleteWalmart continuously does things that directly harm the environment and has not shown signs of stopping. It may or may not be widely known that walmart illegally disposes of waste, is one of the biggest polluters in the country, and only 3% of their energy used is from renewable sources. Walmart has claimed for many years to care about the environment but this is not the case.
ReplyDeleteWalmart was caught illegally dumping waste products and were forced to pay over $100 million in restitution fees. It is important that pesticides and other chemical waste products are disposed of properly to avoid contaminating water supply and soil. There are many waste management companies such as E-Stewards and Safety-Kleen that will handle waste for companies such as Walmart to avoid harming the environment.
Walmart is one of the biggest polluters in the country; emitting more than 45 million metric tons of carbon emissions. Walmart’s claims of supporting renewable energy have been disproved as they continue to fund anti-environment companies.
Only 3% of Walmart’s energy used is from renewable sources. Other companies like Apple, Kohl’s, and Intel, are 100% green. Meaning that 100% of the energy used is from renewable sources like solar and wind.
Walmart is a very large corporation and is easily accessible. If your only option is to shop at Walmart, all I ask is that you are polite to your cashier and use reusable bags to hold your purchases.
Start the post off with "According to this artcle..." I think you give many good facts to support the claim though, but what is your opinion?
DeleteYou forgot to tell us what article you picked like the title and who it is by. I think you could talk more about your opinion more. Overall I think you did a good job on this blog I would just add a little more about your opinion.
DeleteThis was a good post. I would have liked to know the title and the author. You lacked to reference your opinion which could have been included to get a better understanding of how you feel and try and connect with the reader.

In the article “Aggressive Aids Effects on Barrel Racing Horse Studied” Christa Lese-Lasserre believes that kicking, whipping, and slapping does not make you horse run faster. She published this on The Horse website on February, 7 2013. She believes that the more you whip, kick, and slap your horse the more they will resist on going into the arena, it will not improve your time and the horse loses focus on race and focuses on the rider.
ReplyDeleteI disagree because I have a different experience with this, also my trainer and friends agree with me that whipping, kicking and slapping does not slow them down, it makes them run the best they can. If you do not kick your horse going around barrels they will lose all motivation to run. They need the motivation to run, running the barrel pattern is their job. That is like us being lazy when we are at our jobs, the more motivation we the faster we will work.
The first point she brings up is “There appears to be no relationship between the use of the whip, leg or reins and the final run time of cloverleaf barrel race patterns” (Waite). This is not true because the more you push your horse the more they are satisfied. I know from my experience and my horse trainers experience that our horses will not run as fast as they can without getting kicked or whipped. Running the barrels is their
The second point brought up is that “horses that are whipped in the arena have a tendency to resist going into the arena.” (Waite). Some horses do resist going into the arena but it's not always from the whipping, kicking, or slapping. Sometime the horses resist going into the arena because the arena is a new place for them and most of the time the first time running into the arena can be scary to them because they don't know what to expect. You can see the urge they have for running barrels by correctly they run, if they didn't like their job they would be running as well as they do. When the horses rear up they are just scared to run between two posts.
The third point states “The horse's attention is probably directed back toward the rider as opposed to the direction they are suppose to be moving.” (Waite). The horses are always paying attention to the rider, but they know how to multitask with doing their job and paying attention to the rider. I know this with the multiple times I have fallen off my horse. When you fall off your horse they stop and wait for you to get up. When you start falling of their head they throw their head up just to keep you on and not get hurt. They are capable of running a whole pattern without being distracted by us.
The kick around the barrel is suppose to help them guide them around the barrel, so the rider doesn't yank on their mouth and cause more pain then kicking them. Kicking and whipping on the run home is to make them motivated and make them run the best they can. If people talked to actual barrel racers they would say their horse loves barrel racing. They'd give a better description than observers that don't know much about barrel racing.
Overall, I think you did a very good job reacting to the article, summarizing it, and stating your own opinions. You used a creditable source and used evidence to back it up. You did on the other had forget to add your solution to the problem. Overall, I think you did a good job being factual and logical.
DeleteI'd like to hear more details as to why the author thought the way they did. And im curious to know whether whipping, kicking and such can cause long term health effects on the horse. Or if it's okay for them. I'm also curious if there's any other ways you could make a horse perform their best and do what you tell or train them to do.
